High protein diets, like Paleo, Keto and now Carnivore, have been around for a while, and we can understand the appeal. Who wouldn't want to lose weight eating steak, bacon, and cheese?

The principle behind these diets is that by cutting carbs, the body enters a state of ketosis, which may make losing weight easier because you feel less hungry.

We won't go into the nitty gritty of how high-protein diets work. As with any diet, there are pros and cons. For example, ketosis may cause temporary headaches, irritability, nausea, bad breath and sleeping problems for some people.

What we do want to talk about today is digestion on high protein diets. This is something incredibly important in your weight loss journey - and if you don't get this right, you might find yourself doing more harm than good with a high-protein diet.

How A High Protein Diet Affects Digestion (This Is Especially Important After 30)

While there's solid science behind why increasing your protein intake can support weight loss, there's a catch (isn't there always?)

Here's what many protein enthusiasts don't realize: your body's ability to actually use all that protein depends heavily on how well you can digest it.

Protein is harder to digest than other nutrients, so when you increase your daily intake, your gut health is going to take a hit. You might find yourself feeling bloated, gassy, constipated, and fatigued while on a high-protein diet.

To add insult to injury, digestive function and our ability to break down protein heavily declines after the age of 30.

In fact, we lose 10% of our digestive capabilities every year. We lose 30% in our 30s, 40% in our 40s and half of our digestion by our 50s. It gets so bad that by the time we’re 70 or 80, we have lost up to 80% of our ability to digest food!

    This creates a frustrating paradox:

We need more protein as we age to maintain muscle mass and support healthy aging, but our ability to digest protein decreases right when we need it most.

So what can we do to fix this problem and truly benefit from a high protein diet?

    The Missing Link: Digestive Enzymes

When you adopt a high-protein diet, supporting your digestion is the most important thing you can do to ensure success.

And since you produce fewer digestive enzymes every year, the solution here is to start supplementing them - yes, it's that simple!

But not just any digestive enzyme will do - many of them are missing a key piece of the puzzle.

Most digestive enzymes don't efficiently unravel protein molecules, which are kind of like steel wool- tough and the most difficult to digest.

Protein molecules need to be “unraveled” in order to harvest the nutrition, or amino acids inside them, and only then can digestive enzymes help break the rest of it down. And most supplements only address one of these issues.

Digest & Debloat: The Complete Enzyme Formula

This is why we created Digest and Debloat - the first plant-based digestive enzyme formula that covers both step 1 and 2 for digestion.

Digest and Debloat features a specialized enzyme formula in a 100% natural base of apple cider vinegar. It’s not just your average internet enzyme blend, it’s been scientifically studied to digest problematic foods by up to 700%.

To bring you this blend, we partnered with the oldest and most respected American enzyme company with over 100 years of scientific experience.

The apple cider vinegar base in this formula is our secret superpower to help boost your stomach’s natural digestive function by helping to break down problematic foods, especially proteins. It may also help moderate blood sugar levels to prevent spikes after eating. And of course, it is still known for its ability to assist in your weight loss goals.
